The Scrounger is a jig-head that has a flat clear-plastic lip on it that shimmies when retrieved.
Thread a soft Swimbait on the Scrounger head, such as the Big Bite Baits Suicide Shad, Swimming Craw, or a 5" Soft Super Salt Trick Stick.
Use a 1/4 oz. to 3/4 oz. Scrounger Head. Using the Billed Scrounger with one of the soft plastics mentioned above with a spinnerbait skirt, the possibilities are endless.
Here’s why the Scrounger is so useful:
First: It has a very natural and subtle movement. It gives off a great deal of vibration and is very "weedless" as well.
Second: The Scrounger works great anywhere you could throw any soft plastic bait, spinnerbait, or crankbait. It shows the fish something they’ve never seen before.
Third: Most importantly, it allows you to use soft plastic baits on the Scrounger head that otherwise must be fished slowly; but fish them quickly and cover lots of water at the same time.
One of the best ways to fish the Scrounger is to just throw it out, let it hit bottom, then just reel it in as fast as you can while keeping it very close to the bottom. It is also a great bait to work points. Find the end of the point and run it up the sides toward the shore or across the point at two or three depths.
Sometimes when the bass are feeding close to the bank try adding any creature bait. Throw it on the bank and drag it into the water.
Let the Scrounger bump cover often, or if there is a lack of cover to bump, give the rod a pop or pause every once in awhile to trigger a fish that may be following or nearby.
This is a lure that anyone from the beginner to the pro can fish effectively just about anywhere. It’s a really good bait to use when you get into some schooling bass or top water early or late, keeping it close to the surface and reeling it fast.
